Why i'm not waiting around for prince charming

Although I do love Disney and adore each and every movie they make (yes i'm a fan of Frozen) I do not agree with a concept that is portrayed in nearly all princess movies.
With a few exceptions all of the princesses are gorgeous, always have perfect hair and make up and can sing better than the contestants of shows like 'the x factor' and 'american idol'.

All of these girls manage to have amazing talents; whether that's talking with animals, accomplishing a whole day's worth of work in fifteen minutes, sewing dresses out of curtains ect. they all have that special something that makes them more than the average girl.
And nearly every single one of these princesses lives a life filled with perfect beauty and talent, singing about change and meeting the perfect guy. And the second they meet that guy, they fall in love with them and soon forget everything else.
Because of this, nearly every little girl and boy grow up thinking they have to be perfect and super talented and  better than everyone else. And when they meet that one person, they'll automatically know and obviously live happily forever after.

Sorry to disapoint, but that's not the truth. That's not what life is like.
Not everybody is born as a super model.
Not everybody can do everything perfectly.
Not everybody falls in love at first site.

If that's what life was meant to be like then what would we expect of ourselves?

I myself believed this expectation, I grew up thinking I had to be as pretty and as skinny as the next girl. I grew up thinking that one day, I'd get that look and share a twinkling in my eyes with the guy I'm meant to be with forever. And that would be it. The point of my life would have been made. And until that happens, I should spend every waking moment preparing and perfecting myself.

That's not the truth. Yes, it's a part of life and yes it's important to me because I yearn to have a family of my own one day. But i'm not going to spend all of my time trying to be the perfect disney princess.

I'm going to be me. I'm going to laugh a hundred different ways for a hundred different reasons. I'm going to soak up the sunshine so that my freckles pop out. I'm going to smile and discover and learn new things. I'm going to make mistakes and learn from them. I'm not going to try to look like a disney princess and play a handful of instruments and bake amazing cakes (even if I'm obviously a princess at heart). Being yourself is the most inportant thing you can do and embracing every part about yourself is what makes you so unique.

Never ever ever forget that.
